Join Vicar Lynette and the Bethel OWLs (Older, Wiser Lutherans) for “An Evening Under the Stars” at Sky Meadows, a park which is designated as a Dark Sky venue. The evening begins with a discussion about the importance of dark skies and light conservation, then NASA volunteers provide a presentation on the latest news in space research. Finish the evening by viewing the night's beauty with the members of the Northern Virginia Astronomy Club through their telescopes.
We can expect to see, shortly after sunset on August 23, the thin waxing crescent moon will float just above the western horizon. It will lie near Mars in the evening twilight. Nearby is the bright star Spica, the brightest star in Virgo.
**Please bring a lawn chair/camp chair, blanket to sit on, water, etc. The cost of parking is around $10. If you have a flashlight with a red cover, please bring that; however, they provide a red cellophane sheet to put over your phone or flashlight. Also, I will have a few extra flashlights on hand.
*Rain date will be September 20, 2025.
